How to Pack the SwingCase Efficiently
The 1.5 cu ft fills up faster than it sounds. The most common mistake is stacking items without a plan, which creates dead space in the corners and makes the bottom layer inaccessible without unpacking everything. The practical packing order:
- Base layer (heavy and flat): jumper cable set or tow strap coiled flat across the bottom. These anchor the box contents and do not need frequent access.
- Middle layer (modular): first aid kit, tire plug kit, gloves. These are used occasionally. A small canvas roll keeps hand tools together and prevents rattling.
- Top layer (quick access): shackles, zip ties, utility knife, or flashlight — items reached without digging into the box.
Adding foam inserts or a repurposed Plano tackle box insert (approximately $8 from a hardware store) makes the middle layer modular and keeps individual tools from shifting during highway driving.
What 1.5 cu ft Looks Like in Practice
1.5 cubic feet is a 12 × 12 × 18-inch rectangle — roughly the size of a large shoe box. As a reference point:
- A standard carry-on backpack is 1.5–2 cu ft. The SwingCase is a flatter, wider version of that volume.
- A 6-pack cooler is approximately 0.5 cu ft. The SwingCase holds three of those.
- A compact tool bag (the kind a plumber carries on service calls) is approximately 1 cu ft. The SwingCase holds one of those plus additional loose items.
If your use case is a contractor who carries a full daily kit — impact wrench, drill, driver set, socket set, and compressor — 1.5 cu ft is not enough. That is roughly 5–8 cu ft of gear. A crossover toolbox (10–18 cu ft) or DECKED drawer system (two full-length drawers) is the appropriate product for that volume. The SwingCase is an access product, not a volume product.
