Tacoma Generation Coverage

UnderCover uses a single code pair for the full Tacoma platform across all three generations:

2nd generation2005–2015Yes
3rd generation2016–2023Yes
4th generation2024–currentYes — verify on UnderCover fitment tool for your exact year

Tacoma Bed Length Coverage

The Tacoma comes in two bed configurations depending on cab type:

Tacoma bed lengths by cab configuration — both use SC400/SC401
Cab ConfigBed LengthCorrect Code
Double Cab~60.5 in (5 ft short bed)SC400 / SC401
Access Cab~73.7 in (6 ft long bed)SC400 / SC401

Both bed lengths use SC400 (driver) and SC401 (passenger). UnderCover uses one code set for the entire Tacoma platform — the bracket geometry covers both configurations.

SC400 Shared Code: Tacoma and Tundra Driver Side

SC400 appears in fitment charts for both the Tacoma and the Tundra on the driver side. UnderCover confirmed the rail geometry at the driver-side mounting position is the same between these two Toyota platforms. The critical difference is on the passenger side:

SC400 shared code — Tacoma vs Tundra passenger code difference
TruckDriver CodePassenger Code
Toyota TacomaSC400SC401
Toyota TundraSC400SC404

If you are ordering for a Tacoma, the passenger code is SC401. If you are ordering for a Tundra, the passenger code is SC404. SC401 and SC404 are not interchangeable. This is the primary source of ordering confusion between these two Toyota pickups. The Tundra fitment page is not yet published — Tundra owners should verify codes on UnderCover's official fitment tool.

TRD Trim Levels

TRD trim levels do not modify bed rail cap geometry. SC400 and SC401 are the correct codes for all TRD variants:

  • TRD Sport — SC400 (driver), SC401 (passenger)
  • TRD Off-Road — SC400 (driver), SC401 (passenger)
  • TRD Pro — SC400 (driver), SC401 (passenger)

The TRD Pro's Fox shocks, skid plates, and exterior trim are exterior and underbody modifications — they do not affect the interior bed rail cap where the SwingCase bracket mounts.

Install Notes Specific to the Tacoma

Spray-in bedliner

The Tacoma is one of the most commonly spray-lined trucks on the market — factory spray-in liner is standard on many trims, and dealer-applied liner is very common. If your liner covers the bed rail cap surface (the horizontal top face of the inner rail wall), you must remove coating at each of the six screw locations before drilling. Run your hand along the rail face — textured or coated surface means you need to clear it. Use a rotary tool to remove liner at each screw diameter only. Full detail at the SwingCase install guide.

Tonneau cover compatibility

The Tacoma supports a wide range of tonneau covers. SC400/SC401 are compatible with most covers provided the 3-inch clearance rule is met between the SwingCase lid and the closed tonneau. BakFlip (MX4, F1), Extang (Solid Fold 2.0, Trifecta 2.0), and most soft roll-up covers are confirmed compatible on the Tacoma. Retrax covers should be measured before ordering — clearance varies by tonneau series. The Tacoma's lower rail profile on some trims means the SwingCase sits relatively low, often giving more clearance than on taller-railed trucks such as the Silverado or F-150.

Tailgate clearance

Position the rear mounting screw with at least 6–8 inches of clearance from the closed tailgate face to ensure full 180° swing. On the 5 ft Double Cab short bed there is less positioning margin — confirm clearance before drilling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What SwingCase code fits a 2023 Tacoma Double Cab?
SC400 (driver side) and SC401 (passenger side). The 2023 Tacoma is the 3rd generation — SC400/SC401 cover all Tacoma generations from 2005 through 2023. The Double Cab short bed (5 ft) uses the same codes as the Access Cab long bed (6 ft) — UnderCover uses one code set for the entire Tacoma platform. Verify your side (driver vs passenger) before ordering.
Does the 4th generation Tacoma (2024+) use different SwingCase codes?
As of October 2026, SC400/SC401 is the confirmed fitment for the 2024+ 4th generation Tacoma. The 4th gen Tacoma retained similar bed rail geometry. Always verify on UnderCover's fitment tool with your exact year before ordering — new generation vehicles occasionally require updated codes, and the fitment tool is the authoritative source.
Why does SC400 appear on both the Tacoma and Tundra pages?
SC400 is the driver-side code shared between the Tacoma and Tundra platforms. UnderCover confirmed the rail geometry at the driver-side mounting position is the same between these two Toyota pickups. The difference is on the passenger side: Tacoma uses SC401, Tundra uses SC404. If you order SC400 for driver side on either truck, it is correct — but the passenger codes are different and not interchangeable.
Does the SwingCase fit a Tacoma TRD Pro or TRD Off-Road?
Yes. TRD trim levels (TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro) do not modify the bed rail cap geometry — the SwingCase codes remain SC400 (driver) and SC401 (passenger) regardless of TRD trim. The TRD Pro's fox suspension and skid plates do not affect bed mounting.
Do I need to cut a spray-in bedliner on my Tacoma to install the SwingCase?
Yes, if the liner covers the bed rail cap. Tacoma trucks are commonly ordered with spray-in liner (dealer-applied or factory). Run your hand along the inside top face of the rail wall — if it is textured or coated, you will need to clear it at the six screw locations using a rotary tool. Drop-in rubber mats in the Tacoma do not cause this issue.
Is the SwingCase compatible with a tonneau cover on the Tacoma?
Yes, provided there is at least 3 inches of clearance between the SwingCase lid and the closed tonneau cover. BakFlip (MX4, F1), Extang (Solid Fold 2.0, Trifecta 2.0), and most soft roll-up covers are confirmed compatible on the Tacoma. Retrax covers should be measured before ordering — clearance varies by tonneau series. The Tacoma's lower rail profile on some trims means the SwingCase sits relatively low, giving more clearance than on taller-railed trucks.
